From the great site When Kmart stopped carrying the Dreamcast in August, all of us wondered what beef the retailer had with Sonic and company. Well, according to Reuters, SEGA of America, Inc., is suing Kmart Corp. for allegedly failing to pay about $2.2 million dollars worth of Dreamcast systems. SEGA claims to have stopped delivery to Kmart in June because Kmart failed to make the payments, and this may explain why, two months later, Kmart stopped carrying the Dreamcast. The filed charges state that Kmart skipped payments of approximately $2.2 million of a $25.9 million bill dating back to 1999. “This ongoing, malicious lack of payment by Kmart does not produce a working environment for companies to trade with one another,” stated Charles Bellfield, Vice President of Communications. No representative at Kmart could be reached at the time of this writing.
